Jenkinson yesterday
Not only was he awful he looked to me to be unacceptably unfit, has he been on a beano with his mates?

Absolutely right. It would have been difficult for Bilic to drop Oxford after his blinder against Arsenal

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but with hindsight it would have been better if Obiang had started

I had an inkling that Oxford might struggle after all the praise from the plaudits, his physical strength (he's only 16 even though he might not look it don't forget!) & the wily old fox Ranieri having a full week to work out the best way to deal with him

i though Jenkinson looked shocking on Saturday especially towards the end, really looked to be struggling.

Our Full backs will be pushing high most of the season so get used to it.

Hopefully they'll just be given better protection in future.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
Our full backs are both playing too far up the pitch, leaving way too much space for the opposition in behind.
That was our undoing against Astra at home as well.

Correct. I was at the game and agree your analysis.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
I am in no way talking about his ability but his fitness,he was nowhere near match fitness and those who say it's early days he is a professional athlete ffs!

We definitely need someone like Downing who can play each side to help the fullbacks, might just be the worst bit of business for a long time :-(

it's early season, form is all over the place. check out other teams at the moment. Arsenal, nervy, Chelsea all over the place, Man U dull.

Wait until 10 games, they will all firing on all cylinders

Was the worst I have seen him play for us ... It looked like biilic had told him not to go past the half way line

Anyone with brains wont be thinking anything differently. They'll be thinking that Bilic fucked them over with his set up which he did.

SECOND SEASON SYNDROME

It's all the rage these days apparently.

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
I think both our full-backs were had on toast at times yesterday and made to look a bit silly one on one with Leicester's wingers.

I think that was both Cresswell and Jenk's worst game I've seen them play, first half at least. It didn't help that poor young Reece Oxford let nerves get the better of him so he was no help defending and was rightly taken off at half time.

Reece's replacement with the excellent Obiang meant we were much more cohesive in the second half and it was nice to see a manager who could see what was happening and change things. I can't recall Allardyce ever changing players at half-time tactically (I could be wrong of course)- maybe because Mr Hubris would be admitting he'd got the tactics wrong to start with?

Along with the nailed-on Sakho penalty, Smieacal (Sp? can't be arsed to check) made a fantastic point-blank save from Sakho in the second half and we should have rightfully come away from that with at least a point.

Plenty of positives to take from yesterday's game and you can't really eradicate a dogmatic system that's been in place for four seasons overnight. We're a work in progress and we must remember that.

As an aside, it was nice to see a player Allardyce seemed to hate (Zarate) play so intelligently. He'd pick the ball up, go on a run and just as the bloke standing behind me so desperately wanted to abuse him for holding onto the ball for too long he'd make a great little pass. He was actually better at going past players yesterday than Payet- which is no mean feat.

Overall though I'm confident that our standard of play is improving significantly. Maybe I'm wrong about the improvements in the second half being down to tactics? Maybe they just spent 15 minutes in the company of an unhappy Bilic and Dicks and couldn't wait to get back on the pitch!

Re: Jenkinson yesterday
I suspect there are many Premier league teams who would love to have them. I'm more than happy with them given the crap we've had in the past.
If they are shocking this season then I would question the tactics more than questioning them.

Early days, not worried about them unless they get injured and O'Brien has to play.

During pre season WHO'ers put a price tag on Cresswell at £30million and I read Jenkinson is one of the best right backs in the country.

Wonder what they're thinking this morning

Had no pre season so it's not surprising he's off the pace!

Also his facial hair makes him look fat

You may be right there. When he left the pitch at the end he looked like he had just received a text from his bird giving him some bad news.

He was up against a good left back and noble wasn't the quickest player to work with.
